Laura Roeder founded MeetEdgar, a social media automation tool, in 2014, while pregnant. Bootstrapped and profitable from the outset, MeetEdgar has grown and now counts a remote workforce of 28 people.
Laura’s been teaching entrepreneurs how to harness the power of social media marketing at LKR Social Media and then MeetEdgar for over a decade. She’s some very smart things to say about the value of ‘free’ and understanding how you can build a business if you understand what type of customers you want to work with. In 2018, she moved to the UK to set up her next product business, Ropig.
Building a Business in the Face of Well-funded Competition
Laura built MeetEdgar as a profitable business from the outset. Her social media management tool has never had a free option and the business has been built in the face of significant competition from competitors, many of whom are very well funded (over $500 million invested into competitors, not all currently alive). She will talk about three huge advantages that a deliberate lack of funding has given her business – and why her next product is targeting some large existing competitors with the help of robot pigs.
